On May 30, 2024, the HORN International Institute for Strategic Studies, in collaboration with the African Centre for the Study of the United States (ACSUS) at the University of Nairobi, convened a high-level roundtable to discuss the significance of President William Ruto’s state visit to the United States. This landmark event explored the diplomatic, geopolitical, and economic implications of the visit, reflecting on Kenya’s evolving role in U.S.-Africa relations.

Background

In pursuit of its mission to enhance intellectual engagement between academic research and practice concerning US-Africa relations, the University of Nairobi, in partnership with the African Centre for the Study of the United States of America (ACSUS) within the Department of Diplomacy and International Studies, and the US Embassy in Nairobi, hosted US Major General Jami C. Shawley on Wednesday, 14th February 2024. The event aimed to critically assess the evolving dynamics of US-Kenya security relations.

The Ambassador of the United States of America, Meg Whitman, hosted a distinguished reception at her residence to celebrate the advancement of Kenya’s Creative Economy and the newly established U.S.-Kenya Partnership in the Film Industry. This event underscored the growing collaboration between the two nations in fostering creativity, innovation, and economic development within Kenya’s dynamic film sector.
